In addition to being a zero-effluent pulp mill, MLMP has holds a number of forestry sustainability certifications. This includes chain of custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC®). The mill is accredited to the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
Mistik Management Ltd. has achieved certification of its FMA Area to the CSA Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Standard (CAN / CSA Z809-08). That standard is endorsed by the PEFC®. The FMA Area is also certified to the FSC® Canadian National Boreal Standard.
Chips purchased by MLMP are required to have either an FSC® or PEFC® chain of custody.
Through its wood debarking and mill process operations, MLMP is a major producer of biomass suitable as feedstock for green energy production. It is also a major electricity user with a peak draw in the 100 Megawatt range. As a result, MLMP is a prime Saskatchewan location to generate renewable, non-GHG producing electricity. The significant economic impact of that potential was not covered in the scope of this economic impact study.
